Reading a Central Bank Decision
读懂央行决议
Reading a Central Bank Decision is Kitalpha Course 5: 6 lessons, about 2.5 hours, free. Every lesson is anchored to a live Kitalpha record (The FOMC brief with its stored statement spans and market lines, the target-range series, and a second published Kitalpha brief). General educational information only.
How to read a central-bank statement as a record: where the decision sentence sits, what the vote and any dissent record, how a statement-to-statement diff separates changed from unchanged language, why guidance is stated intention rather than a promise, what a market-implied probability measures, and how FOMC and RBA statements differ in structure. Six lessons on live Kitalpha briefs.
What you will be able to do
- Locate the decision sentence in a central-bank statement and read the policy setting it records, using a live FOMC brief.
- Interpret a statement-to-statement diff, separating the language that changed from the language that stayed the same, on the brief's stored spans.
- Read a vote and dissent record, and describe what a split vote records about the committee's deliberation and its stated reasons.
- Explain forward-guidance language factually, as a description of the committee's stated intentions at the date of the statement rather than a commitment.
- Describe what a market-implied probability line in a brief measures, where it comes from, and the difference between a probability and a certainty.
- Compare the structure of an FOMC statement with that of an RBA decision statement, and describe which parts a Kitalpha brief carries for each.
Audience: Readers of Kitalpha's FOMC brief who want to read the statement itself rather than a summary of it. Assumes Course 1 (what a policy rate is) and Course 3 (the releases a central bank cites).
